Rules of Play
Blackjack
1. Bets
-
Each player places their own bet in front of them.
-
There is no shared pot; each bet is independent.
2. Deal
-
Dealer gives each player 2 cards face up.
-
Dealer gives themselves 2 cards: 1 face up, 1 face down (the “hole card”).
3. Player Options (in turn, left of dealer → clockwise):
-
Hit → take another card.
-
Stand → stop taking cards.
-
Double Down → double your original bet, take exactly 1 more card, then stand.
-
Split → if you have a pair, you can split them into two separate hands (must place an extra bet equal to your first).
-
Surrender (some casinos allow) → forfeit your hand immediately and lose only half your bet.
-
Insurance (when dealer shows an Ace) → side bet, up to half your original bet, that the dealer’s hidden card is a 10-value. Pays 2:1 if dealer has Blackjack.
4. Dealer’s Turn
-
Dealer reveals their hole card.
-
Dealer must hit until 17 or higher.
-
Rule detail: Some casinos make the dealer hit a “soft 17” (Ace+6), others make them stand.
5. Outcomes/Payouts
-
Player busts (>21) → loses immediately.
-
Dealer busts → all remaining players win their bet (1:1).
-
Player higher than dealer → player wins (1:1).
-
Dealer higher than player → dealer wins, player loses bet.
-
Tie (Push) → bet returned to player.
-
Blackjack (Ace + 10-value on first 2 cards) → pays 3:2 (e.g. $10 bet → win $15).
